A new climate change policy has been introduced in Balochistan. Initially, 500 million rupees have been allocated for the establishment of the Balochistan Climate Change Fund. A briefing was given to the Provincial Assembly’s Standing Committee on Climate Change, Environment, Forests, and Wildlife.
Officials from the Environment Department stated that, to improve environmental conditions in the province, 45 brick kilns are being shifted to modern zig-zag technology, and the process of relocating 28 chromite grinding mills away from populated areas is underway.
To reduce pollution, 29 effluent treatment plants and 18 scrubbers are being installed in various industrial units. Officials also presented the performance report of the Balochistan Environmental Protection Agency to the committee.
The committee was informed that the department seizes 11,000 to 12,000 kilograms of illegal plastic bags every month, and currently 146 environmental cases are under trial.
